First time using Zoom? Not a problem. If you want to join the call with audio only (not using your video), you don’t even need to download the app.  You just dial into one of the numbers above at the appointed time and have the Meeting ID number ready to enter when prompted.

 

If you want to join the call with video, or using your computer for the audio, there are two ways to do it – on a computer or on a smartphone.

 

Smartphone instructions:

  1. Get the App: Go to Google Play for Android phones or the Apple App store for iPhones and download the Zoom App to your mobile device.

  2. Open the app

  3. Press the blue button at the bottom of the screen that says, “Join a Meeting.”

  4. Enter the 9-digit Meeting ID provided above.

    1. If you want to change the name that appears to other call participants you can do so on this screen.  You can also set some other join options on this screen, like if you want to start with the video on or off.

  5. Press the “Join” button.

  6. Choose either “Join with Video” or “Join without Video” if you haven’t already set your preferences.

  7. Choose your Audio:

    1. You’ll be joined into the call and will be asked about your audio preferences – you can choose to hear the audio through your smartphone (Call using Internet Audio) or by “Dial In” (which will automatically dial the phone number and Meeting ID for you).

  8. What you’ll see once the call begins:

On the bottom of your screen (left to right):

 i.      Microphone icon, with the option to mute or unmute.  You may be placed in an automatic mute until the call begins.

 ii.      Video camera icon – you can turn your smartphone’s camera on or off with this button

 iii.      Share Content (this function is turned off for our calls) 

iv.      Participants – you can see who else is on the call

  1.  v.      More – this is where you can find the “Chat” function.

  1. On the top of your screen (left to right):

    1. Megaphone icon: turns the audio of the call on or off

    2. Meeting ID number

    3. Leave – lets you leave the meeting.  To reenter, you’ll need to go through the process of reentering the Meeting ID and choosing your video and audio options again.

Computer instructions:

  1. Download the Zoom software – you’ll want the very first option “Zoom Client for Meetings”

    1. You may be automatically prompted to download the software when you first try to join the call.  If not, download the software here: https://zoom.us/download.  Give yourself some extra time to do this (at least 5 minutes) before you want to join the call so that you don’t miss the beginning.

  2. Click the Zoom meeting link shared with you which should automatically launch you into the call.

  3. Choose your Audio: you can join by your computer speakers, or you can choose to dial in by phone – click one of the two tabs on the top (“Phone Call” or “Computer Audio” and follow the prompts.

  4. What you’ll see once the call begins on the bottom of your screen (left to right):

    1. Microphone icon, with the option to mute or unmute.  You may be placed in an automatic mute for some or all of the call.

    2. Video camera icon – you can turn your smartphone’s camera on or off with this button

    3. Chat speech bubble icon – click this to open the chat box and send a message to the group

    4. Leave – lets you leave the meeting.  To reenter, you’ll need to go through the process of reentering the Meeting ID and choosing your video and audio options again.
